PRELIMINARY APPLICATION FOR
SECTION 8 VOUCHER RENTAL ASSISTANCE
Introduction
The North Adams Housing Authority administers Section 8 HCV rental assistance programs in the City of North Adams, Adams, Cheshire, Clarksburg, Florida, Monroe, New Ashford, Savoy, and Williamstown. Eligibility for the program is based on income, family composition, and other factors.
Because of limited funding, our Section 8 programs have waiting lists. The length of waiting lists and the time before assistance is available varies. As a general rule, applications are considered in the order they are received. A residency preference is given to households living or working in the communities that NAHA serves. Preferences are also given to households living in these communities who have been displaced through no fault of their own or as a result of domestic violence and to households who are homeless or at risk of homeless through no fault of their own.
At times, in order to meet income targeting requirements, NAHA may choose only applicants within a certain income range. Additional information regarding waiting lists, income targeting, and residency preference will be provided upon request.
The NAHA application process has two steps:
1. This Preliminary Application is used to determine initial program eligibility and to place you on the appropriate waiting lists.
2. When your name comes up on a waiting list, you will be asked to complete a Final Application, which gives us updated and more complete information. This information is used to determine final program eligibility and to calculate your portion of the rent.
