Thank you for your interest in applying at South Central MN Multi County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (SCMMCHRA). SCMMCHRA serves Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca, and Watonwan Counties. Our Section 8, now Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program waiting list is OPEN!

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To be eligible to participate in the HCV Program, Households must meet HUD determined income guidelines and pass a limited criminal background screening. Income limits will vary by county.

If any household member listed on the application are currently on 2 LEASES, they must type in the address of the lease that came 1st as the current ADDRESS. When the 1st lease ends, they must contact the HRA at 507-345-1977 ext. 1 to update their new address (2nd lease).

Do I qualify for a Preference?

Housholds will be selected based on the Preference claimed and then the date and time their completed application is received by the PHA.

To claim a preference, households must LIVE, WORK, or be enrolled and attending HIGHER EDUCATION in Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca, and Watonwan Counties. All households who claim a preference, will be placed before households on the waiting list who do not claim a preference.

At the time of initial application, or at any time a household is active on our waiting list, the household can claim a preference. The HRA will verify the preference claimed by collecting the required documentation at the time the household comes to the top of the waiting list.

What happens after I apply?

After the application is submitted households will receive a receipt with information to set up an Assistance Connect portal login. By setting up an Assistance Connect account households can communicate with the HRA, submit household changes, and upload required eligibility documents. They may also submit required documents by mail, e-mail, or fax.

While Household's are active on the waiting list, they must immediately inform the PHA of changes in contact information, including current residence, mailing address, and changes in preference.

Reaching the Top of the Waiting List When the household reaches the top of the waiting list, they will receive a letter in the mail. This letter states they must call the HRA and schedule an in-person intake appointment. At this appointment they will meet with a Housing Coordinator to review the eligibility documents they brought with them to the appointment. If and when households are deemed eligible to receive a voucher. they will receive a notification to schedule an in-person briefing appointment. This appointment provides a broad description of owner and family responsibilities, explains procedures, and includes instructions to lease a unit.
