Beginning Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 8:30 AM, waiting list applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program will ONLY be accepted for persons who live or work in the Fairport Urban Renewal Section 8 service area (Preference 2). FURA’s service area includes the Towns of Irondequoit, Webster, Penfield, East Rochester, Brighton, Henrietta, Pittsford, Perinton, Rush, Mendon, Macedon and Villages of Webster, Fairport, Pittsford, Honeoye Falls.
This change DOES NOT affect the two senior (62+) Project Based Waiting Lists for Crosman and Fairport Apartments. Those lists will continue to accept applications from households ages 62 and over regardless of their location.
VILLAGE OF FAIRPORT URBAN RENEWAL AGENCY
HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER (SECTION 8) AND PROJECT BASED VOUCHER (PBV) PROGRAMS
The Fairport Urban Renewal Agency opened the Waiting List for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) and Project Based Voucher (PBV) Programs on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 8:30 AM. The waiting list will remain open until the number of applications exceeds a two year wait time for assistance.
Section 8 is a federally funded program that provides rental subsidies to low-income families and individuals living in privately owned units within FURA's service area. Applicants must meet all U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income and eligibility requirements.
FURA’s service area includes the Towns of Irondequoit, Webster, Penfield, East Rochester, Brighton, Henrietta, Pittsford, Perinton, Rush, Mendon, and Macedon in Wayne County.
Like Section 8, the PBV Program provides rental assistance to eligible low income families, however, the rental subsidy is attached to a specific unit as opposed to the individual. FURA has contracts with two projects in Fairport; The Crosman Apartments located at 42 East Ave and Fairport Apartments located at 1030 E Whitney Road. Applicants must be 62 years or older must meet all U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income and eligibility requirements.
WHAT DO I NEED TO APPLY?
For each household member you will have to enter the following information (no supporting documentation will be required at this time):

* Date of Birth
* Social Security Number
* Income amount, source of income and asset information
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must have a gross household income at or below HUD's Very-Low Income Limits according to family size to be placed on the waiting list. Final Eligibility of applicants on the Section 8 and PBV waiting lists will determined once the applicant reaches the top of the waiting list and is screened for eligibility. Income limits are subject to change by HUD.

2 Person: $38,000
3 Person: $42,750
4 Person: $47,500
5 Person: $51,300
6 Person: $55,100
7 Person: $58,900
8 Person: $62,700
PREFERENCES
Applications will be placed on the waiting lists in order of qualifying preference followed by date then time application was submitted.
The following three preferences carry the same weight and cumulate in points:
1. Families/individuals that are displaced, living in substandard housing or are homeless. (10 pts)
(Displaced, homeless or substandard housing preference must have documentation from government or social service agencies verifying the family is displaced, homeless of living in substandard housing).
2. Families/individuals that live or work in FURA's service area (10 pts)
(Town of Irondequoit, Webster, Penfield, East Rochester, Brighton, Henrietta, Pittsford, Perinton, Rush, Mendon, and Macedon in Wayne County).
3. Families/individuals with an elderly or disabled member. (10 pts)
(Disabled member must have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the individual's major life activities)
REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
A reasonable accommodation ensures that persons with disabilities have full access to all of Fairport Section 8 programs and services. Any applicant, at any time during the application process may request a reasonable accommodation. WHAT IS NEXT
Applicants may verify their status on the waiting list at any time by logging in to www.waitlistcheck.com with their user ID and password.
FURA will contact applicants by mail as they reach the top of the waiting list. Final eligibility will be determined, and applicant will be scheduled for a briefing. After the briefing a voucher will be assigned and the applicant may begin searching for a unit within our service area (some applicants may be eligible to move their voucher to another jurisdiction upon intake).
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SUBMIT ANY CHANGES TO YOUR APPLICATION TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY. Any changes to your address, contact information, family composition or income must be submitted to FURA. Applicants can text proof to 585-430-8213, by email to waitinglist@fairportny.com or by mail to 31 S. Main Street, Fairport, NY 14450. Failure to submit changes may affect your placement on the waiting list or could prevent correspondence from reaching you. Failure to respond to requests sent by FURA will result in the removal of your application from the waiting list.
