Applying for the Housing Choice Voucher Program

**** Applications will be accepted only from 7:30 AM on Monday, October 2, 2023, to 4:30 PM on Thursday, October 5, 2023. **** 

To apply for Housing Choice Voucher assistance, you must complete an easy, step-by-step online application. We no longer accept paper applications.  Only one application will be accepted from any one household. Please note that you will be required to create an account and have a valid gmail address in order to submit an application. A link to free e-mail providers will be included on the website for your convenience.

You must complete the entire process for your application to be valid. You can then submit the application and have the option to print a copy for your records.

When you submit your application, you will receive a Confirmation Number.  Please save this Confirmation Number. You will need this number to find out if you have been placed on our waiting list.

About the Housing Choice Voucher Program

To be eligible, you must be at or below the following yearly income for the size of your family.

To be eligible, you must be a family with children OR elderly (62+) OR disabled individual OR single individual 18 yrs or older.

If you receive a Voucher from the Lancaster County Housing Authority, you must use it in Lancaster County PA, outside the Lancaster City limits, for at least 12 months before you are permitted to transfer to another Housing Authority.

After you Apply

We will receive applications from many more households than we will be able to assist. To be fair and consistent with Federal law, we will perform a computer lottery to randomly select five hundred (500) applications to be placed on a waiting list.  Final eligibility will be determined if you are selected for the waiting list and when your name comes to the top of the list for assistance.

The day and time you submit your application will have NO effect on whether your application is selected by the lottery or the order in which names are placed on the list.

The lottery will be performed within ten (10) business days of the closing date for applications. If your application was selected for the waiting list by this lottery, your Confirmation Number will be posted on the Housing Authority website. * If selected for the waiting list, you must notify the Housing Authority in writing of any changes in your address or phone number. If we have no way to contact you when your name comes up on the waiting list, your application will be withdrawn at that time.

If your Confirmation Number is not selected for the waiting list by the lottery, your confirmation number will not be on our website and your application will not be placed on the waiting list at all. Your only opportunity for assistance will be to re-apply when we open the waiting list again in the future.
